•
•
Section 816.97(4) Continued.
(10) Where cropland is to be the alternative poatmining land use on
lands diverted from a fish and wildlife premining land use and where
appropriate for wildlife and crop management practices, intersperse the
fields with trees, hedges, or fence rows throughout the harvested area
to break up large blocks of monoculture and to diversify habitat types
for birds and other animals. Wetlands shall be pzeserved or created
rather than drained or otherwise permanently abolished; and
(11) Where the primary land use is to be residential, public service,
or industrial land use, intersperse reclaimed lands with greenbelts
utilizing species of grass, shrubs, and trees useful as food and cover
fox birds and small animals, unless such green belle are inconsistent
with the approved poatttlining land use.
Kerr Coal will comply with the requirements of 30 CFR 816.97 (d) by
taking the following specific measures.
Aau1 Rdads
Important fish and wildlife habitats, as described in Section
779.20 have been carefully considered in the design and location of
access and haul roads as required by 30 CFR 816.151, 816.161, and
816.171. Examination of identified fish and wildlife habitats
(Napa 20, 21 and 22) indicates that future and existing roads, do
not intrude upon or otherwise impact habitats that are considered
critical or limiting to wildlife or fish populations.
The haul road running alongside Pit No. 3 will pass within approxi-
mately 2,000 feet of a sage grouse lek (Raven Lek). Kerr Coal
evaluated another location for this road on the west side of the
Pit, but this location was not practicable due to the potential
unstability of the highwall to that portion of the pit which would
result from such road location. (Map 1, Kerr Mine Area Mine Plan.)
Operating practices on haul and access roads will be managed to
816-115
