It x111 be more
accessible as this type of useage than it was before the gravel xas removed becasse
the bench areas .can be seeded anti also serve as grazing areas for both wild and
domestic animals. The pit when fully mined out xill conform to the adjacent land
areas. The co:itour work and reclamation plan can be carried out as the pit is being
mined. The equiptment that will be doinng the the mining can also do the sloping of
the the high wall and make the necessary bench areas. The south face of the gravel
pit x111 about a 30o grade except for the water benches that rill control and deter
any run-off erosion.
The south slope can br fertilized and reseeded by a broadcasting method. A ,
recommendation of the SGD 'calls for the reseeding to bluebunch wheatgrass, if available,
or a variety of Indian rice grass. It should be applied at $ pound PLS~acrea.
Either of these seedings would adhere and surrive to tt,e relative barren mountain
side. They would also produce the desired effective gro+rth with a minimum amount
of water or care. As there is virtually no topsoil on the mountain side a growth of
this type would restore the affectd area in a minimum amount of time.
The total life of the Gardner Gravel Pit has an expectancy of over 10 years.
