2.06.8(3)(b)(iv)
within the alluvial aquifer area. The Soils Resource Information,
Section 2.04.9, describes the soil within the permit area. As
can be seen on Table 2.04.9(1)(a)-1 the soil is nonirrigated and
rooting depth is 30 inches. The available water capacity is
3.5 inches.
The land within the permit area of Grand Mesa Coal Company is not
considered to be subirrigated.
(v) Documentation, based on representahive sampling, that areas
identified under 2.06.6(3) are, or are not, flood irrigable;
based on stream-flow, water quality, water yield, soils measurements,
and topographic characteristics.
Referring to the Lanci Use Map, 2.04.3(2)(a)-1, and the General
P•cyuirements: Site Description and Land ttse Information, Section
2.04.3, it can be seen that the elevation in the permit area
ranges from 6300 to 6800 feet. Drawing 2.04.5-1 and Table
2.04.5-1 illustrate the yield of irrigation ditches adjacent
to the permit area. Analysis of water samples taken around the
P.ed Canyon #1 Mine site are shown on Figures 2.04.7(2)(b)-l,
2.04.7(2)(b)-3, 2.04.7(2)(b)-4, 2.04.7(2)(b)-5, and 2.04.7(2)(b)-6.
Based upon the quantities of steam-flow and the topography of the
area, the majority of the permit area is not flood irrigable.
(vi) Analysis of a series of aerial photographs, including
color infrared imagery flown at a time of year to show any
late summer and fall differences between upland and valley floor
vegetative growth and of a scale adequate for reconnaissance
identification of areas that may be alluvial valley floors.
Not Utilized.

REVISED May 8, 1981
163
