State Reg.
• as though the reason for the difference may be that the Wolf
Creek overburden materials swell differently than the Wadge
materials.
Peabody Coal Company has tried to take into account all of the
factors that contribute to the development of the final
topography in the preparation of the Postmining Contour Map,
Exhibit 12-g. As mining progresses, Peabody will continue to
monitor the estimated appearance of the topography on an annual
basis from yearly topographic maps of graded areas prepared by
a professional photogrammetric firm and submit a copy of this
map to the Division as a part of the Annual Reclamation
Report. The postmining contour map should be considered a
"best estimate". If Peabody finds in its monitoring of swell,
grading, and field conditions that the postmining topography
will deviate significantly and adversely from that shown on
the map, the Division will be notified.
• 4.07 SEALING OF DRILLED HOLES AND UNDERGROUND OPENINGS. Each
exploration hole, other drill or borehole, well or other
exposed underground opening will be sealed to:
1. Prevent acid or other toxic drainage from entering ground
or surface waters;
2. Minimize disturbance to the prevailing hydrologic
balance; and
3. Ensure the safety of people, livestock, fish and
wildlife, and machinery in the mine plan area.
4.07.2 Temporary Sealing. All drill holes at the Seneca II Mine will
either be cased for water observation wells or permanently
sealed. Therefore, the requirements of this Section do not
apply.
4.07.3 Permanent Sealing. All drilled holes, when no longer needed,
• will be permanently sealed. Permanent closure measures will
be designed to keep acid or other toxic drainage from entering
ground or surface waters.
12-64 Revised 04/30/90
