' area may be within the hunting range of several other species
including the golden eagle, great-horned owl, and Swainson's
' hawk.
H.2.4 Aquatic Life
A baseline study to characterize the existing biological
condition of the Rito Seco has been conducted. Results of this
study are contained in Appendix L. The study results show a
healthy aquatic environment in the Rito Seco. Brook and brown
trout are relatively abundant and appear to be self-sustaining.
' H.3 Threatened and Endangered Species
' No threatened and/or endangered species were observed on the
project area. Peregrine falcons may migrate through l.he area, but
the possibility of their occurrence on the site is very low. Southern
bald eagles have been reported in the vicinity and may migrate
through the site, but were not observed on the site.
H.4 Colorado Division of Wildlife Concerns

Repeated effort has been made over the last two months to
' contact the local Division of Wildlife (DOW) represuntative, Mr.
Mark Cousins of Blanca, Colorado. Mr. Cousins has not yet visited
' the site: however, in a telephone conversation on August 16, 1988,
he indicated that concerns for this project would be the same as
previously expressed concerns regarding the Earth Scienc:es', El Plomo
' Mine. A copy of that report is attached as Appendix M. It should be
noted that the Rio Grande cutthroat trout mentioned •n the report
' as a state endangered species is no longer on the state endangered
species list.

1
H-6
