same equipment will be used to drive the sampling barrel and
3/9-inch well casing for the smaller diameter wells. Well
installation procedures have been outlined in the Alluvial
Groundwater Characterization plan prepared by Adrian Brown
Consultants for the Big Elk Mine. Section 9.3 from this
document is included with the NOI.
Since excavation will not be required for road construction or
drill site preparation, the topsoil will not be removed and
replaced. The wells will be installed in late winter/early
spring, and wet, soft ground may be encountered. Where wheel
rutting occurs, the rutted ground will be smoothed over
following completion of well installation work, and a grass
seed mixture will be applied as described in item b.(3) below.
b. Specifically address:
(1) Location and acreage of areas where topsoil will be salvaged and stored;
No topsoil will be removed or stockpiled
(2) How much earth moving will be needed for new roads or drill sites, if any;
Drill pads or access roads will not be constructed,
therefore no earthmoving will be required.
(3) What seed mix (type and amount) will be used for revegetation;
In areas where wheel rutting may occur in soft, wet
ground, the rutted ground will be smoothed over
following completion of well site work, and a grass seed
mixture will be applied. Grass species and quantities
are as described below.
Smooth Brome 7. 0 lbs/acre
Intermediate Wheatgrass 6. 0 lbs/acre
Paiute Orchard Grass 2. 0 lbs/acre
Alfalfa 2. 0 lbs/acre
TOTAL 17, 0 lbs/acre
The estimated cost for this seed mixture is 52.00/lb,
which yields a per-acre seed cost of $34.00/acre.
Estimated re-vegetation areas for the worst case (in
which all access approaches and drill sites are rutted)
are given in Table 1. Ground smoothing and seed
application services are estimated at $50.00/hr. At 2.0
hours of ground smoothing and seed application for each
of the 6 sites, it is estimated that the worst case
total re-vegetation cost would be a total of $606.
4
