In general, the project involves changing the locations of the
ditch to the north side of the Sand Pit, routing it through a bore about
• 24 feet under Academy Boulevard, then southward along Academy Boulevard
to reconnect with the er.isting ditch route. It may well be that
Daniel's Sand will 6e moving the ditch on its side of Academy, but that
would 6e a separate project and possibly years in the future. Approval
far such a change has been given 6y the ditch company.
The route described above would allow removal of the sand ridge
separating the Sand Fit and those portions of Daniel's Sand Pit ~2 west
of Academy. This would open the Sand Pit to the south turning it into a
cave rather than a deep pit. It would also allow the removal of the
hazardous, even deadly, pipe across Academy Boulevard.
In the long run the improvements that will occur on the site will
6e quite dramatic. The pit, which currently is rather useless as a
• building site, will be connected to the extensive platform being
produced in the Daniel's Sand Pit #2 area west of Academy Boulevard.
The opening of this site to the south will provide a means to produce an
er.cellent building site that should be complementary to the growing
industry in this portion of Colorado Springs. As a result of the change
not only will a large quantity of sand become available, but the
property values will increase many times. Dn the whale, this relatively
simple process of moving an irrigation ditch will be of great benefit to
all, especially those people who drive Academy Boulevard and are always
at risk of colliding with the concrete pillars supporting the ditch
pipe. The value of the lives that will 6e saved 6y removal of a hazard
far exceed the increases in property values.

F'AGE ~ OF 2 - INTRODUCTION
