way effectively to control this prohlem is to leave a small dike of sand
. on the north side of the ponds. Whether or not this sand can or will be
removed will depend largely on the condition of the material in the
settling ponds. Mast of the ponds are not used very much anymore as
6aniel's is using a new process of settling fines, but before the dike
that would 6e ]eft on the north side of the ponds could be removed the
condition of the material in the ponds would 6e determined.
LOWERING OF THE WEST SIDE OF THE PIT:
-------- -- --- ---- ---- -- --- ----
More or less at the same time the dike is being removed, the west
side of the pit will be lowered. This is really a land leveling
process. The amount of sand involved in the ridge is not great (it
would supply only a few days needs). But the lowering is important to
the neighbors and the reclamation plan.
Mast of the land leveling will 6e east of the Supperstein building
• and within the permit area. Excavation will then proceed from the
elevation behind their building toward the pit. Actually, the ridge
will be lowered from the tap down, but the effect will be the same as if
it were mined from west to east. The reclamation plan will explain in
more detail haw this fits into the overall plan, but in essence the land
east of the Supperstein building will slope slightly down and to the
east. The angle of the slope will be on the order of 15:1 at the
steepest, and probably mare like 34:1 to 50:1.
COMPLETION DF THE DPERATIDN:
---------- -- --- ----------
By the time the dike has been removed and the west side of the pit
lowered there will not be much left to do to complete the operation.
There may remain small areas of sand deposits that need to be removed
• prior to reclamation, but these should 6e minimal.
