ALTERATION OF THE DITCH RDllTE:
---------- -- --- ----- ------
• The first step in the process of altering the ditch route is to
create a route for the ditch on the north side of the pit. The ditch
will make a sharp easterly turn where the entrance road enters the pit.
It will then head east along a carefully engineered route to a point
just west of Rcademy Boulevard. At that point it will be about 24 feet
lower than the level of Academy. From there it will be routed through a
piped bore under Academy. Dn the other side of Academy it will head
east a short distance and then south along Academy to rejoin the
e>:isting ditch route (unless Daniel's Sand decides to alter the ditch
route on the east side of Academy).
In order to accomplish this task of routing the ditch across the
north side of the pit, a large amount of fill must first be placed
against the existing slope below the access road so the access can
• remain in essentially the same location until the dike is removed, at
which time the access can be from the south.
The fill, much of which has already been hauled into the site as
backfill to produce slopes under the existing plan, will be pushed up
against the north bank below the roadway. This will allow the roadway
to be moved slightly south so excavation of the new ditch route can 6e
accomplished.
After the roadway is shifted the new ditch route will be excavated
across the north side of the pit. From that excavation about 70,000
cubic yards of sand will be acquired. When the ditch rerouting is
complete then the next step in the process can be instituted.
\J
F'AGE 2 OF v - EXHI$IT D
