Now, as a result of the Martin
Marietta situation and other losses of water in
Denver, the Denver Water Board is now proposing
a huge, huge reservoir, the Two Forks Reservoir,
which is very, very controversial.
Virtually a hundred percent of the
population of Colorado and in Nebraska have opposed
this, but the Denver Water Board has gone to the
Colorado Water Quality Control Commission and has
asked that State body to allow them to have higher
levels of pollution allowed in that potential water
source, the Two Forks water source, and why?
Because of the Amax mining wastes
that have already contaminated the Two Forks supply
beyond what the Water Board says it can treat.
So we have lost water because of the
aerospace industry. We have lost water because of
the Army and Shell Chemical at the Arsenal. We have
lost drinking water because of the Schwartzwalder
uranium mine, and because of plutonium
contamination in Denver.
I would like to think that t'nere are
places in the State like San Luis that do have
pristine water because you have to be the example of
what we have to maintain in the State and you're
