~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
-__
_ --
TUTTLE APPLEGATE, INC.
~~ Consultants for Land and Resource Development
February 20, 1990
Mr. Michael Boyd
Reclamation Specialist
Mine~9 Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: ,4dequacy Items; File No. M-89-120
Dear Mike:
•
R~~~~~~~
FEB 2 0190
MINED lArJl~
~iECLAMA710N t21irlS'
We have reviewed your adequacy letter dated February 7, 1990 and
can offer you the following responses. Our responses follow the
numbering system used in your letter.
HINING PLAN EBHIBIT D
1. The existing concrete batch plant does not depend on
materials from the Platte Valley Pit as the sole source of
aggregates and could even function with materials purchased from
other suppliers. Based on past rulings we have been given from
MLRD, it does not require a permit since it is not directly tied
to one operation. The batch plant could be in operation prior to
the start of any mining on the Platte Valley Pit. Because of
predicted long term growth in the northeast quadrant of Denver,
the batch plant will remain at this site after the Platte Valley
Pit :is exhausted. There are adequate county land use regulations
that govern this operation which will protect the public health
and :safety.
2. The topsoil and overburden in the area are very similar in
nature. The pit is located in a floodplain which over the years
has been inundated and received s(~9t and clays from upstream. It
is difficult to define a distinct loamy layer of topsoil as
existing. Most of this has been swept away by past floods or has
been mixed in with silts and clays deposited by the floods. We
have no quantity estimate for loamy topsoil since it only occurs
on the property by accident.
We will commit to isolating any distinct topsoil found on the
site and using it in reclamation. However, the majority of
material available for reclamation is going to be the homogeneous
overburden which is silts and clays.
a~
a~
11992 Grant Street Suite 410 Denver, Colorado 80233 452-6611
