Minnequa <br />soils aze on hills, ridges, and side slopes and have slopes of 0 to 30 percent. The <br />mean annual precipitation is about 14 inches and the mean annual temperature is about <br />52 degrees F. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-silty, mixed, calcareous, mesic Ustic Torriorthents <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Minnequa silt loam -grassland. {Colors aze for dry soil unless <br />otherwise noted.) <br />A-0 to 4 inches; Light brownish gray (lOYR 6/2) silt loam; dark grayish brown <br />(lOYR 4/2) moist; weak medium subangulaz blocky structure parting to moderate fine <br />granulaz; slightly hard very friable slightly sticky and slightly plastic; much <br />finely divided lime and a few soft limestone fragments; calcium carbonate equivalent <br />about 12 percent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.2); clear smooth boundary. (3 to 6 <br />inches thick) <br />AC-4 to 14 inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) silt loam; brown (lOYR 5/3) moist; <br />very weak medium prismatic structure parting to fine and medium subangulaz blocky; <br />slightly hazd, very friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; peds are hard; <br />much finely divided calcium carbonate; calcium carbonate equivalent 18 percent; <br />moderately alkaline (pH 8.2); gradual smooth boundary. (6to 16 inches thick) <br />C-14 to 30 inches; pate brown (lOYR 6/3) silt loam; brown (lOYR 5/3) moist; <br />massive; hard, friable, slightly sticlry and slightly plastic; much finely divided <br />calcium carbonate; calcium carbonate equivalent 25 percent; moderately alkaline (pH <br />8.2); gradual smooth boundary. (8 to 22 inches thick) <br />Cr-30 to 36 inches; Niobrara chalk, marl and limy earth with discontinuous thin <br />layers of limestone; calcium carbonate equivalent 25 percent. <br />TYPE LOCATION: Prowers County, Colorado; 0.35 miles north and 0.5 mile west of the <br />southeast corner of Sec. 7, R. 21 S., R. 47 W. <br />RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: Depth to uniformly calcazeous material ranges from 0 to 3 <br />inches. Depth to the paralithic contact ranges from 20 to 40 inches.
