Of the 640 acres requested in the application, only 160 acres will be affected
and only 120 acres will be mined. The four 40-acre areas are described as:
Leoal Description Operation Description
SW '/a of the SE '/a of Sec 24 Staging area
SE'/a of the SW 'k of Sec 24 Mine phase #1
NE'/a of the SW '/a of Sec 24 Mine phase #2
NW '/a of the SE'/a of Sec 24 Mine phase #3
Each 40-acre increment will have a life expectancy of approximately 10 years.
The staging area will include water storage tank for dust control, loading area
and topsoil/overburden stock piles. The loading area will serve as product stockpile
and staging area for palletizing the product and loading the haul trucks. The staging
area will encompass approximately 5 acres. The topsoil stockpile will serve Phase 1
operation's needs and provide overFlow area in the event more stockpile area is
needed for Phase 2 and Phase 3 operations.
The applicant wishes to bond 40 acres, or one phase, at a time. In each
phase approximately 15 acres is anticipated to be mined due to the location of the
targeted deposit. Prior to excavation, the applicant intends to stake or otherwise
physically mark the boundary of the parcel to be mined. The operation will be
limited to 40 acres at one time.
The applicant wishes to reserve the right to operate a screening or processing
plant. The targeted outcropping appears to be of sufficient quality to not require
screening or processing. In the event, however, that the quality of the reserve
changes to require treatment, the applicant will operate the necessary plant within
the staging area.
Overburden and topsoil will be stockpiled either within the staging area or
within each 40-acre bonded area. The stockpiles will be placed along the perimeter of
the bonded area but not adjacent to exposed ridges in order to prevent displacement
of material into the path of surface runoff. The placement of the stockpiles is in
response to the recommendations provided by the Department of Wildlife.
Reclamation will occur subsequent to the mining operation. Reclamation will occur in
a mined out portion of a phase as the operation moves across a phase and into the
next phase according to the mining plan map. No more than 40 acres will be
affected at any one time.
Ranch Land, LLC proposes to mine utilizing front-end loaders to remove and
stockpile topsoil, overburden and product. Surface material will be removed to
expose the Dakota and Codell deposits. All surface material will be stockpiled within
the staging area or 40-acre bonded area for later use in reclamation. Loaders will
scrape any overburden into stockpiles and loosen the product material. The product
will be transported to the staging area in small trucks such as bobtails or the
equivalent. This will be a dry mining operation. The mining methods will be
consistent throughout the life of the mine.
Water diversions and impoundments will be rnnstruded as required by
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Water Quality Control
Division. When deemed necessary, storm water diversions will be constructed of
overburden. Diversionary berms will be constructed to deter storm water from
