• MERINO FLAGGY LOAM (X2F) <br />Taxonomic Class: Loamy-skeletal, mixed, nonacid Lithic Cryorthents. <br />Al 0-6" -- Pale brown (lOYR 6/3) flaggy loam, dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) <br />moist; moderate fine granular structure; soft, very friable, slightly sticky, <br />slightly plastic; many very fine and fine roots and fine interstitial pores; <br />many clear uhstained sand grains; 25 percent flaggs, 35 percent channers and <br />the fine channers form a nearly complete shingling of the soil surface; <br />slightly acid; clear wavy boundary. (4 to 10 inches thick) <br />R1 6-9" -- Shattered andesite with 10 to 20 percent volume of very pale brown <br />(lOYR 7/3) loam filling vertical and horizontal crevices; few very fine <br />roots; abrupt boundary. (3 to 10 inches thick) <br />R2 9" -- Hard andesite rock. <br />Sampling Location: Based on SCS Soil Series Descriptions. <br />Range in Characteristics: Depth to hard unshattered bedrock is 10 to <br />20 inches. Volume of coarse fragments ranges from 35 to 90 percent in the <br />soil above unsh$ttered bedrock. Merino soils have mean anaual sgil <br />temperature of 44 to 46°F and average summer soil temperature of 55 to 58 F. <br />The hue is 2.5Y through 7.5YR. Value as dark as 4 dry and 2 moist occurs in <br />• the upper two or three inches of the Al horizon in some pedons. The soils are <br />slightly acid to mildly alkaline. <br />Drainage and Permeability: Well drained; moderately high permeability. <br />Depth to Water Table: Greater than 60 inches. <br /> <br />Ex. 15-13 <br />
