The process would also probably involve a small (40 ft x 40 ft. x
4 ft. deep), lined fresh water pond. The pond would b used for
washing the rock and settling any silt produced in the plant prior
to mixing. No chemicals will be'involved. Water woul be recircu-
lated in the process, and make-up water would be purch sed from the
City of Gunnison or other adjudicated source and haule to the site.
For reclamation, any silt produced (probably a minimal quantity)
would be salvaged and later spread on the pit slopes. The liner
would be removed.
2. If any fines are produced in the operation that could ~e used in
reclamation, they will be salvaged and stockpiled on t e westerly
side of the permit area (refer to the revised Exhibit 2, attached).
Upon reclamation, preference would be given to replaci g the material
upon the pit slopes where stabilization is most desira le.
As a stabilization measure, any stockpiled fines would be stacked
with side slope gradients of 2:1 or less and planted w th a perennial
grass cover of the equivalent of 15 lbs./acre Western heatgrass and
0.5 lb./acre innoculated yellow sweetclover.
I
3. The old stockpile noted at the northwest corner of the area consists
of coarse rubble and other large rejected materials pr duced from
older operations. Per your suggestion, the boundary h s been re-
vised to include this area. The pile will be explored to evaluate
if it contains any usable materials. If it is disturb d, the area
will be reclaimed.
Exhibit E
1. In order to facilitate reclamation of 2:1 final slopes the following
measures will be taken:
i
- Reclaimed slopes will be left rough graded and pitt~d in the
manner given in the application.
- Any fines salvaged will be spread on the graded sloes.
- Contour furrows will be established along the finalslope at
every 50 to 100 ft. of slope length.
- The slopes will be mulched and the mulch anchored (~r netted)
in the fashion given in the application.
- Two episodes of fertilization will occur as outline in the plan.
- 2 -
