6REG LEWICKI TEL:1-303-629-9335 R r_02,98 18:17 No .001 F.05
-- - P-

(Ipstream Sampling Station
]n July, ]980, an upstream monitoring well was installed approximately 30 feet north
of Trout Creek through the alluvium to bedrock in the NW/4 of the NW/4 of Section
27, T4N, R86W, approximately 400 feet upstream of the sediment pond point source
discharge location. This well was installed to determine tltc quality of the alluvial
~ aquifer upstream from the minesite. 7'he well location 'is shown on Plate 1. The well
was cased with a 2.5" ID PVC plastic pipe perforated from the water table to the
bottom of the hole. Cutting samples were taken and arc described on page 70 in the
attached Chen & Associates report on Job iY20,753. 'fhc :annulus was sealed to prevent
surface water intrusion. Groundwater samples were taken tri-annually, as outlined on
page 65.06. Data is available for this well since September of 1980.
Since September of 1980, the following data have been recorded for the well:
Well elevation: from -5.6 Feet to -7.0 feet below the well collar.
pN: from b.4 to 7.2
EC: from 75 to 140 microtnhos/cm
Temperature: 3.0 to 14,4 degrees Celsius depending on the time of year.
This data also shows little variation from the water quality of the adjacent 1'raul Creek.
In June of ]995, this well was back lied with rocks to the surface since a revision was
~ contemplated to abandon monitoring of this upstream station. In 1998, upstream
monitoring is to be resumed at this location using a new shallow well. This upstream
well is to be installed using the same procedure used to install the downstream well as
described below. Both wells are installed pursuant to Technical Revision 9.
Uownstrcam Monitoring Wcll
Prior to ]998, downstream monitoring rcquircnrents liavc been historically satisfied by
using an alluvial well installed by Pittsburgh and Mid+vay Mining Co. ]n the NW/4 of
the SW/4 of Section ]4, T4N, R86W. This well it callcei TR-1.5, and is located
approximately 2.2 miles downstream of the Apex site.
• Revised 8/16/97 /+~' 03
~.CL
