surface water parameter long list and monthly measurements of flow, pH, conductivity, and <br />temperature. <br />An initial spring and seep survey was performed in and around the Seneca II-W Mine area during <br />July, 1979. Locations of the spring sites that were surveyed are shown in Exhibit 7-5. <br />Historical and descriptive information about springs is contained in the beginning of Appendix 7- <br />7 of Tab 7, Hydrologic Description. Eleven springs (sites enclosed with a rectangle in Exhibit 7- <br />51 were monitored for field parameters and sampled for water quality during June through <br />October, 1983. Water samples collected from these eleven sites were analyzed for most <br />dissolved ions and some trace elements. <br />Pre-October, 1991 Surface Water Monitoring Program. The pre-October, 1991 water monitoring <br />program is described in Appendix 15-2. The surface water monitoring program included surface <br />water and spring sites. Four surface water sites (SG5, SG7, FG1, and FG21 were operational <br />prior to 1990. Flumes were installed at Sites FG4 and FG5 during 1990, and Site SG8 was also <br />initiated in 1990. Site SG6 was replaced by NPDES Site 006 in September, 1989 following <br />construction of Pond 006. Monitoring at the seven sites consisted of monthly lApril through <br />November) field measurements (flow, pH, conductivity, and temperature) and triannual water <br />sampling according to the surface water long list of parameters. Continuous flow recorders <br />were in operation at Sites FG1, FG2, FG4, and FG5 from April through November. <br />Implementation of the monitoring program initially required annual monitoring of Springs S-1, S- <br />5, 5-23, 5-41, and S-45 using field parameters and water samples analyzed for the surface <br />water long list of parameters (Appendix 15-21. The program was revised in May, 1987 to <br />require monitoring at the five springs on a semiannual frequency. Spring S-7 was added to the <br />list of springs monitored at Seneca II-W on a semiannual basis in May, 1967; however, <br />permission to monitor this site was not obtained until 1989. Spring Sites S-1, S-5, S-7, 5-23, <br />5-41, and 5-45 were monitored on a semiannual basis lApril-June and September-November) for <br />field parameters (flow, pH, conductivity, and temperature). Water quality samples were <br />collected semiannually and analyzed according to the surface water parameter list.
