• elopes were included.
® KNOWN CULTURAL RESOURCES
Several surveys have been conducted in the general area of East Salt
Creek by the Historical *!useum. No significant surface manifestations
have ever been observed or recorded. The possibility exists that the
extreme slopes cause the:valley floor'to fill at such a rate that all
surface exposures are soon covered. It is unlikely that [he area was
not used by prehistoric man. Historically, ranches were established
along East Salt Creek at the mouth of the canyon aad at its junction
with Hay Canyon as evidenced by existing structures.
FINDINGS A*ID CONCLUSIONS
• A coal mine was observed in the canyon bottom along Munger Creek.
It is south east of D.A. 1~7-22-2 in the NE'ZSE'-~STds; Sec. 22. The debetage
including a. tricycle and other items seem to indicate the age of the site
as being post 1930 A.D. Surface indicates are that the project area as
described herein will not impact significant archeological remains pre-
dating ca. 1930. Therefore, it is unnecessary for the BLM to enact any
mitigating proceeduies. If the proposed activities should encounter his-
tonic or prehistoric remains, construction or coal mining proceeduies
should cease until a professional evaluation can be made.
•
