..
I EXHIBIT D (Cont'd)
Stage 6, soil salvaged from Stage 7, and the topsoil in
Stockpile Area 2 (Map Exhibit D-1) will be spread over the area
of Stage 6. Stage 7 will be reclaimed with material stripped
from Stage 8, and Stage 8 will be reclaimed with material
stripped from Stage 9. As mining is completed in each stage
' of Stages 8 through 14, the east 2 to 1 slope will be
brought down to a 4 to 1 slope. The topsoil from this addi-
tional area will be removed and (1) stockpiled in the area
between the pit wall and the boundary of the affected land and
subsequently spread over the 4 to 1 slope, or (2) will be used
to reclaim the area mined previously.
Stage 14 will be reclaimed with material from Stockpile
Area 1 (Map Exhibit D-1). All perimeter slopes along the
eastern side of the pit will be mined at 2 to 1 and will be
sloped to 4 to 1 during reclamation.
The pit will operate year-round on a demand basis. When
clay or sand is required by the brick plants, the material
will be removed from the stockpiles at the mine. As the stock-
piles are reduced, new stockpiles will be created with mined
materials.
The clays to be mined lie in almost vertical veins which
are interbedded with sands which are unsuitable in large
volumes for the manufacture of brick. The clay veins lie
between 70 and 80 degrees from horizontal. The majority of
the unsuitable sands will be excavated and used to reclaim the
-13-
