Her report is dated also
August 4, 2004.
This sail area .previously identified (terrace soils) as an AVF is quite small, being only
a narrow strip of (Shanty) soA adjacent to the existing teEltOad fu and grade, the stte
examined August 4t^ is alotlg the north fringe of the larger #105 Shanty soli unit The
larger Sharrta.urtit extends mostly south east of ttre railroad grade. Therefore, tltis is a
fringe area artzi can be expected to differ somewhat from the typical Shanty soil
description in the Fremont County Soil Survey.
The report by Laura Craven, of August 4~, notes ihat the typical dark surface colors
due to organic matter are lacking and that there is now a difference in structure of,. the
surface horizon. Such differences, in lack of developed soil structure can be expected
where native sods have tseen disturbed either by grading, filling or even lay frequent
tflfl7l cultivation practices. Soil structure wit! redevelop over time once a permanent
grass cover is re-established.
On August 24"' I used a surveyors wheal to measure off (NW of railroad grade) vuhai I
believe to tier the Shanty soil area, in general between contour 5250 and 5255; the
area measured is small, only .7 of an acre. Above this elevation the soil changesta
#72 Midway-Cascajo complex and #52 Kim - Casrajo complex, Doth rangeland sott~.
GO'VSERVATION-DEVELOr'MENT-SELP-GOVERNMENT
E-mail atlCress: Janel.bamhan~co.nacdnet.net
