RECLAMATION PLAN
• Exhibit H
Wildlife Information
The following information concerning wildlife in the area has been
developed in conjunction with the local wildlife office, W. Travnicek,
Salida, Colorado.
A. Description of the significan wildlife resources on the affected land
or nearby areas.
Big Game Small Came
Mule Deer Cottontail Rabbit
%lk Mourning dove (migrant)
tdtn. Lion Band-tailed pigeon (migrant)
Black Bear Turkey
Non-Gene Raptors Other
Bobcat Swanson's Hawk Mountair. bluebird
• Grey Fox American Rough-legged Hawk Black-billed magpie
Red Fox Praire Falcon Violet-green swallow
Coyote Golden Eagle
Ring-tailed Cat
Porcupine Great Horned Owl
Raccoon American Kestrel
Long-tailed Weasel
B. Seasonal Use of the area:
The quarry area lies in an area that sees heavy use as mule deer winter range.
No other big game is known to inhabit affected or surrounding land areas on a
seasonal basis. Mammals commonly found on affected land throughout the year ~n-
clude Nutall's cottontail, porcupines, coyotes, and foxes. i
C. Threataied or endangered species: ~
There are no known threatened or endangered species inhabiting affected land
in Coaldale. A family of golden eagles is known to winter in the country a few
miles east of the affected land, and is occasionally seen hunting in the neig~-
boring areas. Mining does not seem to have appreciable affect on the populations
of rabbit, gophers, ground rodents, ect. ~
I
D. Although temporary loss of some graze and browse is evident from the mining
operation, not enough area is disturbed to significantly affect wildlife habitat.
On the contrary, mule deer and fox are commonly viewed by the workmen throughout
• the year, especially in the winter months. Noise and human activity do not seem
to significantly affect the wildlife population in the surrounding area, and
eventually, though concerted efforts in the reclamation programming, the affected
land should promote even larger wildlife populations than before mining activities.
~.
