RECEIVING STREAM <br />A. ldentifrcation, Classifrcation and Standards <br />ldentlfication: Discharges to the North Fork ojthe Gunnrson River, segment 3 ojthe North Fork ajthe Gunnison River <br />Sub-basin ajthe Gunnison River Basin. <br />2. ClassiTcarion: Segment 3 it classified for thejo!lowing uses: Recreation, Clots 1; Aquatic Life, Class 1 (cold); <br />Agriculture. <br />3. Numeric Standards: The standardt which have been assigned in accordance with the above classifrcatians can be found <br />in the Classifications and Numeric Standards for the Gunnison River Basin 3.5.0 (S CCR 1001-8), as amended <br />December 11, 1995. 11 should be noted that this jacifity does not discharge pollutants which are limited by water quality <br />standards with the exception ojpH, for which the standard is 6.5 to 9.0 s. u. and iron The outfall will consist entirely of <br />surjace runoff, will discharge only in response to precipitation evenu and is limited by federal ejJluent guidelines. <br />FAC/L/TYDESCR/PTION <br />A. /ndusrry Dacriprion <br />1. Tvoe oflndustrv: The facility is an active underground coal mine. Coal is crushed and stockpiled until Loaded onto rail <br />cars. Production it approximately 1.3 million tons per year. This volume is crushed on site as is an additional 0.3 <br />million tons per year from other mines in the vicinity. <br />1. Sources to the Treatment Plant: surjace runoff is the only source to the new sedimentation pond <br />3. Chemicals Used: The permittee did not sped arty chemicals for use in waters that may be discharged from this new <br />ovlfall, On this basis, no chemicals are approved under this permit. Prior to use ojany applicable chemical, the <br />permittee must submi! a request for approval which includes the most current Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for <br />that chemical Until approved, use ojarty chemical in waters that maybe discharged rs a violation ojthir permit. <br />B. Wastewater Trmtmen! Description <br />The wastewater treatment consisu ojsurjace runoff, which is sealed prior to discharge. <br />VI. TERMS AND COND/TlONS OF PERMIT <br />A. Determination ojEjfluenr Limitations <br />1. Ellluen! Limitations: In developing suitable effluent limitations, the Division must review all applicable standards and <br />regulations and apply those which are more stringent. This review includes, but it not limited to: the water quality <br />• standard based effluent limitations, federal guidelines and standards (40 CFR Subchapter N) and Slate Effluent <br />Regulations (/ 0.1.0). Such a review has been done for this facility. The following limitations wilt apply. The bash for <br />these (imitations is discussed in Sections VLA.1 and Vl.A.3. <br />
