precipitation controlled; the mine was shut down once due to a
• combination snowmelt-spring rain event and was re-entered when
dryer conditions returned.
A further indication of low groundwater yields is that all water
from the mines is pumped to the sediment pond. Sediment pond
flows, even in the spring of the year, are very low.
The quality of water pumped from the mines, for the most recent
reporting period, July BS-June Bb, showed the fallowing overall
quality ranges:
ph: 7.4-B.5
Specific Conductance: 200-2700 uhmo/cm
Iron: x:0.5-1.5 ppm
* NPDES maximums for iron were exceeded on two occasions
during the preceeding permit term but prior to July 1985.
These data suggest the relationship between water pumped from the
mines and precipitation events. The high iron readings are
believed to be a result of low sediment pond detention times when
the pond was reaching full sediment capacity.
In conclusion, impacts to groundwater resources both on and off
the minesite and mine workings areas are undetectable. The
findings of the FHF report have been validated.
•
157
