• Adc:eci Lands From February 1983 Revision
The additional permit areas to the north*and south occur in the
upper hillsides of the Raton Creek drainage basin. The same three
water-bearing formations located within the existing permit area are
located in the additional permit area to the north and south.
Descriptions of the three formiations, the Trinidad Sandstone,
Vermejo Formation and Raton Formation are given in the existing
permit. There are no known differences in the strata from the
existing permit area to the proposed expanded area. The additional
area to the south contains considerably larger thicknesses of the
Raton Formation.
Figures 1, 2 and 3 depicting the site specific hydrology have been
revised to include the additional permit area. Although the general
direction of arourdwater flow for the region is to the east, localized
• flow patterns may vary. Water within the Vermejo Formation flows to
the northwest while flow from the Raton Formation generally seeks the
lower drainage channels in any direction.
Hydrologic Characteristics
All three formations show poor characteristics as aquifers. Per-
meabilities, porosities and specific yields are all low. The Raton
formation appears to have slightly better characteristics than the
other two formations, but is still in the poor category. The only
two wells within reasonable distance in the Raton formation are the
CF&I wells in R63W, T34S, Section 4. Both wells went dry soon after
drilling in the 1960'5 and have not been used since.
L
~ NOTE: The A.P.Green lease has not been renewed, therefore
is no longer part of the permit area. If it is re-leased
it will be added at that time.
153
