They are on the uplands, developed in <br />clay loam derived from the outwash of sandstone. The surface horizon, about <br />7 inches thick, is grayish brown friable clay loam. The subsoil horizon, which <br />extends to about 23 inches, is brown, firm clay loam. The substratum is pale brown <br />loam to 60 inches or more. <br />RI-Rockland <br />' Rockland consists of areas having enough rock outcrop and very shal',ow, very stony <br />soils to submerge other soil characteristics.
