5. Please indicate the measures that will be taken to ensure the waste rock disposal
area will not exceed background radiation levels after the site is reclaimed.
Include current background radiation levels for this location.
6. Please provide specifications of the proposed portal closure. DMG recommends
installation of a bulkhead 25 feet in the portal and then an earthen backfill of the
adit out from the bulkhead. Alternatively, if the mine workings are demonstrated
Yo be favored as a hibernaculum for bats, Rimrock may wish to consider
installation of a bat grate closure.
7. Please provide detailed specifications for the vent closure design and process.
8. Please clarify whether 3:1 slopes from waste rock deposits will be maintained
through out the duration of mining or established after mining is complete prior to
re-soiling.
9. Please indicate at what intervals seeding for erosion control of topsoil stockpiles
will be accomplished. Also, DMG recommends using the approved seed mix for
topsoil stabilization. Will Rimrock use the BLM mix or something else?
10. The Reclamation Plan notes that USDA methods and mix will be used. However,
BLM has a different mix. Please clarify which will be used.
11. Please submit a Noxious Weed Control Plan approved by the Montrose County
Weed Control Manager. Knapweed in particulaz was observed near the proposed
site.
12. DMG will require SPLP testing of waste rock and ore generated from mining
activities. Please commit to notifying DMG staff in writing of deposition of these
materials on the surface within 30 days of actually doing so. When the Division
receives the notice, exact testing parameters will be discussed in detail for the
SPLP testing. Testing must be done by a state certified laboratory and Rimrock
must submit a copy of the final results to the Division within 30 days of receipt.
Please note that the results of the testing will be used to determine whether
additional review for Designated Mining Operation status is warranted.
13. The Division has not received documentation from Rimrock that the Bureau of
Land Management is cuaently reviewing the application. Please be awaze that
although the Division may approve the permit, BLM's process must also be
complete prior any disturbance. Many issues can be addressed simultaneously
and reduce Rimrock's application review times.
