by t4adden (1977) and Piccirilli (1979) provide considerable
• geologic data. Structural geologic information is available
from Carpen (1957), and ground water data is available from
Voegeli (1965). In addition to these publications, records
of the existing Canadian Strip Mine and files of the Color-
ado Division of Water Resources were reviewed for this
report.
Seven test holes were utilized in defining the ground water
regime on the 90-acre tract. These wells, identified on
Plate 1, consist of two series of test holes constructed
by the USGS in their coal evaluation program and one
series of wells constructed by Wyoming Fuel Co. Holes
J6A and J6B were constructed in 1977 by the Survey and are
• described in Open File Report 77-888 (Madden, 1977).
Hole Jmm2 was constructed by the Survey in 1979 and is
described in Open File Report 79-1629 (Piccirilli, 1979).
Each of the survey holes was sampled, geophysically logged
and filled.
Four test wells were constructed by Wyoming Fuel Company.
These wells were drilled, sampled and cased with 4" diameter
PVC casing. Logs of each of these wells are presented in
Appendix A. These wells and information from the highwall
of the existing pit which bounds the north edge of the lease
were used to define the hydrology of the lease tract.
• 2
