Water for sanitary usage will be drawn from a well which
penetrates the upper sandy section of the Pierre formation.
• A request for a pernit for this well located 430 ft. east and li
40 ft. north of the SW corner of Sec.2, near the current
mine has been filed with the Colorado Division of ?•Iater
Resources. Water from this well is suitable for sanitary
usages; however, it will require some treatment if utilized
for domestic consumption.
Impact of Mining upon Ground Water and Ground Water Rights
The area to be mined, 0.1 sq.mi., is so small in relation to
the total area of recharge of the Coalmont Formation on
the floor of North Park that mining should have neglible
effects on the recharge and storage capacities of the
• aquifer as a whole. However, some local effects will be
evident.
As mining progresses, seepage from the Coalmont beds into
the mine will occur along the highwall and advancing face.
The siltstone unit overlying the Sudduth seam will become
drained up gradient in advance of the excavation. This
should be a local effect, probably extending not more than
500 feet in advance of the excavation. Some water may
also enter the pit from the underlying sandy unit of the
Pierre formation if fractures are encountered which pene-
trate the shales underlying the Sudduth Seam. Experience
with the existing pit, and permeability tests conducted on
• rock samples indicate total ground water seepage into the
19. i
