4-24
• 4.5.3.1.1 Flow Regime of East Salt Creek
Streamflow records for East Salt Creek near Mack, Colorado
were obtained from the U.S.G.S. for the period of record,
July to September, 1973, and all of the water years of
1974 to 1979. These records are reproduced in Appendix
From this data, a flow-duration (or cumulative frequency)
curve for East Salt Creek discharges was constructed in order
to project the reliability or variability of the Streamflow
regime on the basis of its 6-year record. The curve is shown
in Figure 4.5-2. The flow-duration curve shows the percent
of time that flow is equal to, less than or greater than the
various rates of flow which have been measured during the
. period of study. A flow-duration curve does not present flow
in the natural sequence in which it occurred; it is not
• possible to determine from the flow-duration curve whether
the highest and/or lowest flows occurred in consecutive
periods or were scattered throughout the record. However,
the flow-duration curve does provide a clear indication of
the stability of flow rates. As can be seen in Figure 4.5-2,
flows ranged from less than 0.1 cfs to more than 2,600 cfs.
On the basis of the flow-duration curve, East Salt Creek
' discharges are characterized by relatively low absolute values
and a high degree of variability in flow rates.
