4-23
•
•
Channel gradients are characteristically steep, averaging
more than 2 percent in their lower reaches and more than
30 percent in their headwater areas.
/1 The information contained in Section II was summarized
from the Environmental Statement, Reference No. 4.
4.5.2.3 Site Description
Munger Canyon is deep, narrow, V-shaped wate~ed containing
little flatland along the valley bottom. In general, steep
slopes, sparse vegetation, shallow, poorly developed soils
and rock outcrops characterize the area. Various sandstones,
shales and alluvial materials derived from them comprise the
surface geology. Flat-lying soils in the drainage bottoms
range from very sandy or gravelly to much finer textured soils
containing a high percentage of soluble salts. There is a
complex of six vegetation types on the coal lease area. (See
Section 48). Vegetative distribution is largely determined
by annual precipitation and the local soil moisture content.
Futher information concerning the geology, soils and vegetation
of the area can be found in Sections 4.2, 4.7, and 4.8
respectively.
4.5.3 Data Analysis, Results and Discussion
4.5.3.1 Long-Term Average Flows
