1
The site has very limited eco-niches for birds and wildlife,
' probably because of the disturbed areas from previous gravel
extraction and the general location. An abundance of domestic
cats and dogs have driven away or are keeping away the wildlife.
' A project such as proposed would have as an ultimate use,
' light commercial-manufacturing, and possibly some residential
uses. In a normally well landscaped development, the introduction
of ornamental landscape plants will cause an increase in many
' of the nesting-perching species of birds. Eco-niches that do not
currently exist will be created in the shrubs and trees that normally
' accompany well developed projects.
' The finished landscaping should include some tall grasses.
With good seed producing capability and many of the berry and
1 seed producing shrubs commonly available. Introduced species
tof trees should include Douglas fir, spruce, and mountain juniper.
Due to the threat of pine beetle, it is recommended that the pondero-
sa pine be omitted in the replanting of the completed project.
' From a vegetation-wildlife viewpoint, the proposed ultimate
use will probably be more beneficial. Interim use of the site for
' gravel extraction will have some negative impact caused by dust
' and noise. Mitigation of dust may be accomplished by wetting
down haul-access roads during the extraction process .
1 I
