Earthmoving
Sand and gravel will be excavated by front end loader and transported to the processing site by a
conveyor belt system. It is anticipated that gravel materials removed from the six phases will total
approximately 5.5 million tons (800,000 - 1.5 million tons per year).
Al! water diversions and impoundments
Wash water will be impounded in a small pond within the appropriate processing azea and recycled
through a settling pond. Water from dewatering operations will be dischazged into a settling pond
then to St. Vrain Creek, consistent with CDPS permit. Ultimately, the settling ponds will be allowed
to fill with silts. These silt ponds will create natural wetland basins that will be an integral part of
our overall reclamation plan.
The size ojarea to be worked at any orre time
Aggregate will mine the site in pods to minimize the amount of land disturbed at any one time. A
pod may range in size from I3 to 33 acres. In addition to the processing site, the area disturbed
during any phase of mining will be limited to either one individual pod or portions of two pods,
based on mining activity. In no case, however, will additional pods be opened, unless reclamation is
complete on the first mined of the two open pods.
An approximate timetable to describe the mining operation:
The site will be mined and reclaimed concurrently. Please see the Mining Plan Map (Exhibit C) for
the mining sequence. Please refer to Exhibit E -Reclamation Plan, section (e)(i) for timing
information.
Nature, depth, and thickness of the deposit and [hickness ar:d type of overburden to be removed
The drill logs indicate [he depth of overburden varies from zero to five feet. The depth of the sand
and gravel deposit varies from eight to 23 feet.
Nature of the stratum immediately beneath the material to be mined in sedimen[ary deposits
The azea underlying the bedrock in this area is the Pierre shale formation which is approximately
3,000 feet thick at the location of the proposed mining activity.
Primary and secondary commodities to be mined/extracted and describe the intended use
The primary commodity to be mined extracted is sand and grave]. The intended use is for
construction materials.
Intended use of al! expected incidental products to be mined
The secondary commodity to be mined extracted is gold. The rate of gold extraction will not likely
exceed %: ounce per 10,000 tons.
AGGREGATE INDUSTRIES, INC. - FREDSTROM SITE 112 PERMIT PAGE -14-
