EXHIBIT D -MINING PWN
This section follows the requirements outlined in Section 6.4.4.
Mining Methods
Aggregate Industries, West Central Region, Inc. (Aggregate) will mine the site in six phases. The
mining sequence will begin in phase one and continue in order through phase six. There will be a
processing plant located north of St. Vrain Creek. The plant will include processing equipment,
material stockpiles, a wash pond, and settling ponds.
Equipment
Truck traffic on site will be minimal due to the use of a conveyor belt system. Equipment in the
processing azeas will include front end loaders, scrapers, dozers, backhoes, haul trucks, crushing and
washing equipment, generators and support equipment, such as pickup trucks, water trucks,
maintenance equipment and trailers. Idle equipment will be parked on-site. Equipment storage will
not cause erosion, landslides, or other hazardous conditions. It is anticipated that the number of each
piece of equipment will vary according to demand.
Proposed Miring Process for Each Section
Before mining commences, Aggregate will install a dewatering trench around the area to be mined.
This water will be pumped into a settling pond. Aggregate will obtain a discharge permit before
discharging water and comply with all Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment
(CDPHE) regulations including monitoring and reporting requirements.
After the section is dewatered, scrapers will strip the topsoil and overburden and stockpile it along
the perimeter of the area to be mined. The overburden will ultimately be used in reclaiming and
sloping the shore. Excess overburden will be sold. Next, sand and gravel will be excavated by front
end loader and transported to the appropriate processing plant by a conveyor belt system. There the
material will be screened, crushed, washed and stockpiled to await transportation to its final
destination. The stockpiles will be situated to reduce noise created during the operation. This wit]
also reduce the visual distraction caused by moving equipment.
Concurrent reclamation will be occumng throughout the mining process. Subsequent pod stripping
and dewatering activities will begin approximately 90 days prior to final removal of the gravel
materials in the current pod.
Ho:vs of Operation
Mining operations will be conducted year round, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or
daylight to dazk, whichever is more restrictive, with shut-down periods for bad weather and plant
maintenance. Only hauling and equipment maintenance will be allowed on Saturdays.
Processing Imported Material
Aggregate may process materials imported from other sites.
AGGREGATE INDUSTRIES, INC. - FREDSTROM SITE 112 PERMIT PAGE -13-
