L~ ~~
PLAN FIR DEPEId~@IING TEIE SUCCFSSFULNESS OF REUEX;ETATION
• The criteria for derprmin;nQ success of revegetation on reclaimed lands has been
modified in congliance with OSM special stipulations and the State Program Permit
Submission, as noted in the Midterm Review. The modifications include the
statistical methodology far oa~aring cover and production of reference areas and
reclaimed areas. It also includes the shrub density and species diversity
standard far rangeland.
In su~azy and in accordance with 13Ae 4.15.8, revegetation of reclaimed sites
will be deemed successful when ~G+n-~•+*a of reclaimed herbaceais Dover aryl
productivity are at least 90 percent of the Dover aryl productivity values far the
reference area with 90 percent statistical confidence. If herbaceous cover and
productivity on the revegetated areas are determined to be less than the
reference areas, aone-tailed "t" test will be perfa~i~ed to determine if there
is a statistically significant difference. Based ar this test, rmvegetation will
be deemed successful when the calculated "t" is less than ar equal to the "t..
value from the one-tailed "t" distrikution table (see August 9, 1980 response to
OSM stipulation #9).
The following formula far the one-tailed "t" test was obtained from gage 13 of
Statistical Evaluation of Reveaetation Success on Coal Iands in the West, L.L.
• Larson, OST~S-Region V, Feb2vaty 26, 1980:
t = X1-X2
e
stn + stn
n1 n 2
Where:
to = calculated estimate of t value
X1 = mean far reference area data (cover ar production)
X2 = mean far revegetated area data (cover ar production)
~n = variance of refP*n*+ro area data
sl= = variance of revegetated area data
~ = number of observations of reference area data set
rh = number of observations of revegetated area data set
•
B42 91-68 Permit Renewal 780-136-2 Revised 06/11/91
