TOPSOIL REMOVAL, STORAGE AND REDISTRIEL'TION PLAN
The topsoil removal, storage and redistribution plan has been modified a
number of times due to changes in production rates, changes in scheduling of
areas to be mined, additional leases, etc. However, the most up to date
life of mine topsoil plan which supersedes all past revisions is the Revised
Life of Mine Topsoil technical revision submitted August 9, 1985 and
approved March 17, 1986. The schedule, yardages, and locations for all
topsoil movement and storage are shown on Permit Renewal Tables 5, Topsoil
Balance by Areas, Life of Mine; 6, Yearly Topsoil Laydown Area Summary;
and 7, Topsoil Movement and Permit Renewal Maps 7 and 8, Life of M1tine
Topsoil Plan. Yardages and depths are correct; however, as pointed out in
the technical revision, some scheduling changes may be necessary. Delays in
obtaining approval for regraded contours have already caused delays in
topsoil redistribution.
In order to move the topsoil in stockpiles 26/27-51, a temporary crossing
will be constructed in the southern tributary of Foidel Creek. Prior to
constructing the crossing, an access road will be constructed to link
• topsoil stockpiles 26/27-51 to the regraded spoil in Area 51. The access
road is shown on Permit Renewal Map No. 7.
The access road will require salvaging topsoil, which will be accomplished
by either stockpiling it at a central location or windrowing it to the
side of the road. The read will traverse 3 different soil series and
redistributed topsoil. The series and respective topsoil salvage depths are
as follows: Aaberg Silty Clay (Mapping Unit 35C) - 13 inches; Aaberg
Silty Clay (Mapping Unit 35D) - 28 inches; and Gapo Clay Loam (Mapping
Unit 23A) - 24 inches. In addition, approximately 18 inches of topsoil will
be bladed from a segment of the access road that will be constructed within
the reclaimed area.
The road will be constructed so that the overall yrade does not exceed 10%.
Likewise, the grade will not exceed 15% for any consecutive 1,000 feet, nor
will there be more than 300 feet within a 1000 foot section where the grade
exceeds 15%. The slopes of the road cuts will not exceed 1V:1.SH. All of
• the drainage from this road will enter into Pond A. Therefore, no other
sediment control measures are required.
Tk 89-25 Permit Renewal 780-107-1 Revised 06/26/89
