FISH AND WILDLIFE PLAN
A number of changes in the wildlife mitigation plan have resulted from
special stipulations and revisions to the permit. A summary of those
changes follows:
Elk
Five OSM stipulations were attached to the permit. Four of these were
concerned with elk and calving habitat. As noted in the response to the
Midterm review February 3, 1984, all of these stipulations have been
responded to. All commitments for elk calving habitat modifications
have been satisfied. In addition, commitments to monitor elk for the
life of the mine were modified to a 5 year period. This monitoring has
been completed (see MLR response dated hlarch 13, 1986). As a result, no
further modification of elk habitat or monitoring of elk is required.
The wildlife buffer zone shown on Map 2 of the original application, was
also eliminated when the technical revision was approved o.. July 24,
1981 allowing mininc in that area in conjunction with the above
mentioned 5 year study of elk.
The commitment to prohibi± all hunting in the mine area has also been
modified. In an effort to cooperate with CDOW a limited amount of
hunting is allowed in order to meet the CDOW goal of increasing harvest
of cow elk on mine property.
Raptors
As required by stipulation to lease C-26914 and the associated technical
revision approved by CMLRD September 10, 1985 and OS+i January 3, 1986,
the active prairie falcon nest site is being protected as follows.
•
Permit Renewal 780-83-: Revised G3/31/87
