C~
that make it eligible for nomination to the NRHP. Accordingly, it is held evaluated as not
eligible and no further work is necessary. The buildings of this site will not be directly
affected by the proposed project.
Site SDT1276 is an historic farmstead located on the first terrace north ofthe North
Fork of the Gunnison River at an elevation of 5920 feet. The property was probably part of
the Patrick J. Collins homestead which was passed onto Charles Morgan in 1904. He
deeded the property to William Anderson in 1909. The Anderson Family owned it until 1945
when it was sold to Mike and Ruby Kuretich. It is presently owned by Bowie Resources,
Inc. and includes a triangulaz block of land of approximately 5 acres. This area includes a
house, cabin/gazage, barn, agarage/shed, chicken house and outhouse in a structure complex.
The approximately 4.5 acres of associated field aze in grass-hay now, but were probably
orchazds in the past.
Feature 1 is the main house structure. It is an L-shaped structure that has apparently
gone through multiple remodeling projects. The earliest structure within this house may have
been a cabin measuring about 24 feet by 14 feet. It grew to be 32 feet along the E-W axis
• and 36 feet on the N-S side. It is a one-story frame structure set on a % basement on the
south portion. The final remodeling is documented by an inscribed date in the concrete
foundation of ]934.
Feature 2 is a cabin and associated garage structure located just east of the main
house. The cabin has a post and beam foundation, and measures 16 feet (N-S) by 12 (E-W).
The garage portion located on the east side of the cabin has approximately the same
measurements, but is set on a sandstone clan[ foundation. A privy is located just south of this
feature.
Feature 3 is located northeast of the cabin on the opposite side of the entry road. It
is a double-door garage and storage shed that measures 24 feet (E-W) by I4 feet M-S).
Feature 4 is a chicken coop located just west ofgarage and measures about 8 feet by
10 feet.
Feature 5 is a horse barn measuring about 30 feet (N-S) and 22 feet (E-W). It is
constructed mainly of poles and cut lumber, and appeazs to have gone through at least two
remodeling episodes. It is divided into two stalls on the south and a small corral on the
north.
Evaluation and Manaeement Recorrtmendation
Although most of the structures are in good condition, the site does not meet criteria
that make it eligible for nomination to the NRHP. Accordingly, it is field evaluated as not
eligible and no further work is necessary. This site will be directly affected by the proposed
project.
7
