The remainder of the house appears to have been <br />constructed in the early 1930's. <br />Feature 5 is a T-shaped shed that has door openings at each end. The center axis <br />measures 24 feet (N-S) by 16 feet (E-W). This building has a sandstone clast foundation <br />exposed on its east side. <br />Feature 6 is a shop/garage building measuring 18 by 50 feet that is wood-framed and <br />covered with corrugated metal. It too was probably constructed within the past 50 years. <br />Feature 7 is located on the east end of the property. It measures 24 by 50 feet, and is <br />wood-framed and covered with corrugated metal. It is used as a shed and garage for <br />tractors. <br />Feature 8 is located on the south side of the property near the center. [t is a steel <br />tank about 20 feet tall and ] 0 feet in diameter. <br />Evaluation and Manaeement Recommendation <br />Although most of the structures are in good condition, the site does not meet criteria <br />that make it eligible for nomination to the NRHP. Accordingly, it is field evaluated as not <br />eligible and no further work is necessary. The buildings of this site may be directly affected by <br />the conveyor system to the loadout area. <br /> <br />Site SDT1275 is an historic farmstead located on the first terrace north of the North <br />Fork of the Gunnison River at an elevation of 5920 feet. The original owner was William <br />Langford, who sold the property to Lee Pesola in 1904. The property is presently owned by <br />Bowie Resources, Inc. and includes a triangular block of land of approximately 6 acres <br />measuring approximately 800 feet per side. This area includes a house, barn, Butler Building <br />and outhouse in a structure complex, and an orchard. <br />Feature 1 is the house structure. It is an irregular, rectangular building that has a <br />partial basement in its south 1/4, which is made of sandstone blocks. Entries to this level are <br />made from the outside. Two floors are above the basement, a main floor and a narrow <br />bedroom azea just under the roof. Excluding the porch attachments and a lower level <br />westward extension, the house measures approximately 30 feet (N-S) by 44 feet (E-W). The <br />house appears to have been built and remodeled at least three different times with the earliest <br />probably being the turn of the 19'" century. <br />Feature 2 is a large bam located northeast of the house. It measures about 50 feet <br />squaze with an addition of stalls on its east side. <br />A recent addition (within the last 25 yeazs) to the property is a Butler Building <br />(Feature 3) for storage of orchard ladders and tools. An outhouse is located on the west side <br />of it. <br />.
