Do Nothing Alternative
The Do Nothing Alternative was considered as the base alternative for
the entire project length. However, the Do Nothing is being recommended
only through the town of Somerset, largely due to strong citizen support for
this alternative within the Somerset community. East of Somerset, the high-
way must be relocated because it needs to accommodate expansion of their rail
facilities to meet increased future demands of the coal mining industry in
the North Fork Valley.
Section III -Somerset
Three alternatives were considered along this section of the highway
•
between Miles 18.0 and 21.9. The purposes of these alternatives were the
same as those for Section II: to provide separation between the highway and
the railroad and to minimize interference with mining operations.
