• The major disadvantages are:
The congestion of traffic will remain through this portion and
low speed limits will be maintained.
Noise and Air pollution impacts to the town of Somerset will
increase as industrial activities and traffic increase within
the Corridor.
Heavy traffic through the town will further jeopardize the
safety of pedestrians, particularly children.
Property values may decrease as industrialization takes place.
Somerset residents will not have the potential option of
totally relocating to a new, less congested area.
The major advantages of the alignment beyond Somerset are:
It will provide excellent access to the river for recreation
by being adjacent to it for several miles.
Construction will not interfere with the use of the present
highway.
• It will be a very scenic highway, following the river with
undulating curves and it will have a 50 mile per hour design
speed.
This alignment will not cross the railroad tracks.
It will be considerably less expensive than Alternative III-C
and about the same cost as Alternatives III-A and III-B
(35,000,000).
Some of the disadvantages are:
It will require two river crossings at Miles 19.7 and 21.8 and
one major creek crossing at Mile 20.1.
This route will need several long channel changes.
Since most of the construction will be along the river, it may
cause some water pollution during construction.
Some of the Bear Mine property will have to be used for a
channel change in order for the highway to occupy the river bed.
A bridge and a conveyor at Bear Mine will have to be moved and
reconstructed to allow for the construction of the highway.
