Section 785. 19 (c} Continued.
U
Agilcultnial Activities
Section 779.22 contains a description and map of agricultural acti-
vities in the mine plan and adjacent area. Map 27, North Park Land
Use shows that the historical premining land use of the adjacent
area has been undeveloped rangeland and pastureland in the Canadian
River floodplain. The only agricultural activity in the adjacent
area other than rangeland and pastureland use is dryland wheat and
hay farming in the Canadian River floodplain some two miles dis-
tance from the mine plan area.
u
Soils and vegetation information presented in Sections 779.19 and
779.21 concerning the mine plan area is summarized below. The
soils and vegetation characteristics found in the mine plan area is
also found all along the floodplains of Bush, Williams and Sudduth
Draws, as demonstrated by Map 26, Kerr Mine Area Soils and Map 18,
Kerr Mine Area Vegetation. Therefore, the descriptions of soils
and vegetation in the mine plan area are also applicable to the
downstream reaches of the intermittent streams in the adjacent
area.
I
Soils
Detailed soil surveys were conducted in Bush, Williams and Sudduth
Draws by Kerr Coal personnel, with special emphasis placed in areas
where unconsolidated alluvial deposits had been field mapped. Due
to the fact that the land containing Bolton Draw is privately owned
and landowner permission could not be obtained, detailed surveys
were not conducted in Bolton Draw. Flooded ground conditions in
the spring of 1980 prevented detailed soil surveys in the Canadian
River and Illinois River floodplains. The two soil types found in
the intermittent draws in the mine plan area are Spicerton sandy
loam and Girardot silty clay loam. Descriptions of these soils can
be found in Exhibits 26 and 27, Soil Profile Descriptions and Soil
Mapping Unit Descriptions, respectively. The lower reaches of Bush
785-12
