TABLE 3.7-1 Reclamation Cost Calculations -Revisions
• CONCRETE PORTALS
(MR-24)
Special features have been incorporated in the concrete portal design to facilitate
reclamation. The designs are shown on Page 29 of this Table 3.7-1 and will produce
panels of concrete that will be skidded into the mine or placed at the toe of the highwall
and covered with a minimum of 4 feet of soil. Since the Division's normal
source of reclamation cost data makes no provision for demolition and disposal of
this type of a concrete structure that is designed for easy reclamation, the costs to
remove the structures are estimated below.
Certified Blaster to Shoot Portals Use $ 500 per day and two days to finish
Cost for blaster $1,000.00
Each portal will have 220 feet of plastic pipe to be loaded with powder.
Each box of powder contains 100 sticks of powder that are 18 inches long.
There will be a total of 150 sticks of powder needed to shoot each portal
The total cost of powder for all three portals at $ 100 per box will be
Powder Cost $500.00
Total demolition cost = $1,500.00
Shooting the portals will not cut all of the rebar that is used to reinforce the concrete. A
"welder' will be needed to cut the rebar with a torch. Since the concrete will be cleaned
from the rebar, cutting it with a torch will be relatively easy. The welder should be able to
finish one portal in one day. The welder, with torches will cost about $30 per hour.
Welder cost for 3 days = $720.00
Concrete Disposal Cost
Disposal cost on site $5.18 per cy
Total volume of concrete 130 cy
Total Disposal cost = $673.40
Total Portal Reclamation =

$2,893.40
Mc Vof t - Tbl 3.7-1 Task 20 Page 3 1 t - 7958
