Southwest District Ventilation Borehole. Powerline and Access Road
The Southwest District Ventilation Borehole, Powerline and Access Road will require a minor amount of work in
.order to reclaim the sites. The work includes: building and duct-work removal, fan removal, demolition of concrete
pads, removal of concrete, sealing the top of the casing, powerline and pole removal, road removal, topsoil
replacement, and seeding.
It is anticipated the ventilation shaft, and access road will have a useful life of approximately three years, or until
the last panel in the SW District has been mined out. The building, duct-work, fan, powerline and poles have been
removed from the site. The borehole has been permanently sealed. The concrete pads have been broken up and
properly disposed of.
Final reclamation of the 36-inch diameter casing involved placing afive-foot cement plug at the bottom of the
cased hole. The casing was backfilled from the plug to within 10 feet of the surface. The top 3 feet of the casing
was cut off, a 7 foot cement plug was placed in the remaining casing, and the remaining 3-foot hole backfilled with
subsoil. The access road was graded to blend with the surrounding terrain, and the culvert removed. The
ventilation borehole pad and access road were topsoiled and seeded with the appropriate seed mixture.
0-Entry Ventilation Shaft
The 0-Entry ventilation shaft reclamation work will require building and duct-work removal, fan removal,
demolition of foundations, removal of concrete, sealing of the shaft, regrading of the fan site, and replacement of
plant growth media. It is anticipated that this fan will remain until all mining operations have been completed at the
Foidel Creek Mine.
Final reclamation of the shaft will involve will involve construction and placement of apre-fabricated framework of
steel support beams, steel composite decking and 4 inches of concrete to be placed approximately 10 feet below grade.
Prior to construction of and placement of the decking, however, the concrete foundation will be broken up and put
down the shaft. The support beams and decking will be suspended from the concrete liner by steel straps (i.e. I-beams
or similar support structures) welded to the support beams. The steel straps will be tied into notches cut-out of the top
of the liner. Once this is completed, a 24-inch thick reinforced concrete slab will be constructed over the previously
placed slab and decking. The void from on top of the concrete slab to within 5 feet of the surface will be backfilled
with fill material (approximately 20 CY) from the surrounding azea. The next 2 feet of the shaft will then be filled
with concrete to form a top plug for the shaft. Fill material will be placed in the remaining 3 feet of the shaft
(approximately 22 CY) and then the plant growth media placed over the site.
The duct-work, buildings and foundation materials will be removed and placed in the backfilled portal azea. The
materials will be crushed to minimize the volume to be added to the pit. The materials will then be covered during
the backfilling of the facilities. The material excavated from the site and placed in the Equipment Storage azea will
be returned to the site. It is anticipated the material will be dozed back to the site and sloped to conform with the
approved postmining topography. The plant-growth material will be returned to the site and seeded. The fan and
power-poles will be removed from the property and placed in an appropriate landfill.
Washolant Powerlines
When the washplant powerlines are no longer needed, they will be dismantled and the powerline components
removed from the site.
Washolant Waterlines
When the washplant waterlines are no longer needed, the surface portion of the waterlines, pumphouse and power
line will be dismantled and removed from the site. Buried portions of the pipelines will be stubbed-off below
grade, capped, and buried.
TR07-59 2.05-104 02/27/07
