Repeat steps where necessary.
12. Add vertical connector splices and vertical connectors
for the next lift. (dote that connecting channels are
also attached with these same bolts.)
13. Repeat steps 10 and 11 as necessary.
14. Finish off top of bins by installing stringer stiffeners
ar,d column caps.
15. Complete backfilling.
C. Alternate Method of Assembly
ltihen a crane is available, a fast and economical method of
erection is to sub-assemble the transverse section. P1est of
the bolting is downhand and therefore faster whether hand or
• power wrenches are used.
~y Two or more saw horses with a pair of timbers i:ill make an
adequate assembly table. The required number of spacers
are laid on the table and eertieal connector splices (if
used) and vertical connectors are slipped over the ends of
the spacers. The connecting channels are ther. laid in place
and the entire section bolted tight. Ee sure that the
vertical connecters are parallel before the bolts are
tightened.
These assemblies are set on positioned grade plates and 'Held
in place bl• stringers at the bottom and stringers or stringer
stiffener at the top. Chec}: alignment of wall and tighten
these bolts. The rest of the stringers are then bolted in
place as suggested in steps 5, 9 and 10 in 6 above.
D. General
Hundreds of Armco walls have been assembled with hand tools
and common labor. Power tools, lifting equipr.,ent, and
skilled labor will in many cases decrease construction time
and make the r:ork easier. Ko mention is made here of
excavating, backfilling, or general earth moving equipment,
as that's a field of it's own.
•
A
~.
