COMPLIANCE WITH COLORADO SURFACE COAL MINING RECLAMATION ACT OF 1979
•
In order facilitate and expedite the review of this revision, Peerless
Resources has held meetings with the Division during the summer of 1984
for the purpose of discussing and reaching some understanding concerning
this permit, design criteria for certain structures, and environmental
baseline information requirements. In addition, Peerless Resources has
worked with the Division on preparing responses to notices of violation
that were issued to the Arness-McGriffen Coal Company along with an
exploration permit application. This permit for the Coal Gulch Mine has
proceeded in substantial reliance upon discussions held at these numerous
meetings and subsequent conversations held with the Division.
Also, because of these most recent meetings, along with past dealings
with Arness-McGriffin Coal Company, it should be emphasized that the
Division has a significant familiarity with this property. In other
words, much of this permit covers an area which has been scrutinized by
the Division for several years. Acceptance and approval of this permit
will mean that a general commitment has been made to the reclamation and
productive operation of the site.
MAXIMUM UTILIZATION AND CONSERVATION OF THE COAL
Peerless Resources will strive in its mining operation to recover the
maximum coal tonnage that may be practicably removed. The overall goal
of Peerless Resources with respect to coal recovery is to go well beyond
the diligence normally required to maximize coal production. Maximizing
coal production while minimizing unnecessary costs are items that both
the government and Peerless Resources are concerned with during these
times of economic recovery. .Peerless Resources will be mining to
maximize the recovery utilizing continuous methods of underground mining.
DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION OF PERMIT APPL
• Peerless Resources has carefully chosen a format for this application.
The application is arranged for easy reference to specific sections of
-5-
