Upper Block. A box cut will be opened in the center of the upper block in 1992. Scrapers will most
likely be used to assist the dragline in uncovering the coat, especially in the northwest Ilowerl end of
the box cut and possibly the cropline coal on the east side. The overburden depth in this area
approaches 90 feet. As stated earlier, the dragline will alternate between this block and the lower
block. The next pit in this area will be in 1993, adjacent to the box cut. Pit progression will take place
on bath sides of the box cut. As with the lower block, this schedule may be deviated to adjust for
unforeseen circumstances and the pit sequenced may vary from that shown on Exhibit 12-2. The
economic recovery line should be reached in 1996.
Haulage to and from this area will be on Haul Roads A and G. The empty trucks will proceed to this
block up Haul Road A. The loaded trucks will travel down Haul Road G. ("') In good weather Haul
Road G may be used as both an in and out road.
South Block The pit layout in the south block deviates from the general mining configuration in the
areas to the north where the pits are aligned perpendicular to the coal cropline. In the south area, pit
configuration is constrained by a steepening of the dip of the coal seam and the resulting rapid increase
in overburden depth as mining progresses away from the cropline. In this area, mine pits and
progressive development will occur parallel to the cropline. Development of the south block will
proceed directly from the final cut in the lower block. As shown by Exhibit 12-3, a narrow pit will be
extended to the south along the Wadge seam cropline from the final pit highwall in the lower block.
Given the initial pit configuration, some development material may be moved by scrapers to facilitate
partial backfilling of the final cut in the lower block: The pit will be widened and extended fuither to
the south and west, following the Wadge seam outcrop. A box cut will be opened approximately in the
middle of the south extension mining area where the outcrop extends around a natural topographic
feature. The resulting pit will connect with the main pit with mining continuing to the south and west
to the defined reserve limit. Once the final highwall is established, angering operations will be
conducted and progress to the south, as shown on Exhibit 12-3. All aspects of the angering operations
are described in Attachment 12-2, Auger Mining.
Initially, coal will be hauled from the south block using Haul Road H, which will be extended from
existing Haul Road A. As mining proceeds to the south, the haul road network will be extended with
construction of additional Haul Roads, I, J, and K. In order to minimize overall mining-related
disturbance, new haul roads will be extended from existing roads with Haul Road I connecting to Haul
Road H and Haul Road K connecting to Haul Road J as shown by Exhibit 12-3.
It should be stressed that all mine progression and sequencing dates are for esuma[ing purposes only.
Due to fluctuating power plant demand, coal orders could increase or decrease on a monthly basis.
This will effect the overall pit sequencing, but not the general mining direction.
•
8 Revised 04/00
