SUGGESTED SOLUTIOT:S CONTINUED
3. After mining of gravel ceases the banks should be sloped to 3:1 slopes or flatter.
South and southwest facing slopes should be sloped to 5:1 or flatter slopes.
4. The sloped banks should then be capped with 6 to 12 inches of soil in preparation for
seeding. The seedbed should be well settled and firm', but friable enough so that
the seed may be drilled to the recommended depth.
5. Recommended grass species are Western wheatgrass, Blue grama, Indian ricegrass,
and Crested wheatgrass. A small amount of winter fat is also recommended. Refer
to form CO-ECS-S for seeding rates and grass varieties. Grain straw mulch should
be applied at the rate of 4000 pounds per acre over the seeded area and crimped.
6. The seeded area should be deferred from grazing for at least two years or until the
seedlings are well established.
,,l
F~14i~.
,S
..' 4'
~~j.
- ;arks:
`:~::` ,~: M5. ..
. {,,~~~~
p} Yil`.'.; J

,_{,
<~~
~
,.
~.-
. ,Y ~G~,,,~r..~a ~~
.. r,.:~'
::"i=
~
.;?~..
.
.
`r:

. ~ Jy ~. ~.. ..
::::~~~~i':;~f'::,f~4'Sjlr:~i'~,
.c,
~;
