Page 12
reclaiming any specific amount of land."
(M. Brown, J. Brown)
Response - (See Response for No. 1)
4. "In the original version. the application proposed three separate phases of reclamation. The authors
now call for reclamation only after all mining operations have been completed."
(J. L. Clnrk)
Response -The applicant's plan is to conduct concurrent reclamation of the gravel areas. The quarry
areas will also be reclaitned concurrently as much as possible. The applicant's timetable for
reclamation activities is spread evenly over the expected 37-year life of [he mine.
Application Exhibit G -Water Information:
"There is a well with cyanide contamination l/8 mile from Mr. and Mrs. James E. Clark's well. Also,
they believe there is a well with cyanide on the proposed site. What will happen if these wells are
disturbed?"
(J. & L. Clnrk, R. & N. Dodd, M. Brown, B. Breeze-Krieger)
Response -The applicant sampled the water from l0 locations on or near the project site. These
samples were tested for toxic metals and arsenic, and no high levels were noted. The applicant has
been unable to locate the wells supposedly contaminated with cyanide, and objectors have not
provided the locations of these wells. There is nothing in [he applicant's mining plan, including
blasting, that would disturb a well outside the permit boundary.
2. "I understand there is a major aquifer in this area, yet no such water source appears on [he maps."
(M. Brown, J. Brown)
Response -The applicant has identified an alluvial aquifer and a bedrock aquifer in the narrative of
the application. The description adequately identifies the location of these aquifers.
3. "I have yet to see any flow rates or annual volumes for any project phases."
(M. Brown, J. Brown)
Response -The applicant provided a thorough discussion of project water source and usage in Section
4.0 of his response to the Division's adequacy review.
4. "Existing wells, one reputed to have cyanide, are not shown on the maps."
