~~
~ The potential plant comnnxnity on this unit is mainly blue grams, western
wheatgrass, and alkali sacaton. the average annual production of air-dry
1 vegetation is about 1,400 pounds per acre.
This unit is well suited to irrigated crops. Irrigation water can be
' applied by furrow, corrugations, sprinklers, or flooding from contour
ditches. To avoid overirrigating and leaching of plant nutrients,
applications of irrigation water should be adjusted to the available water
' capacity, the water intake rate, and the crop needs.
Nonlegwninous crops respond to nitrogen and phosphorus, and leg~uninous
crops respond to phosphorus. Returning crop residue to the soil or
regularly adding other organic matter improves fertility, reduces crusting,
t and increases the water intake rate. If properly managed, this unit can
produce 6 tons of irrigated alfalfa hay and 20 tons of corn silage per
acre.
This map unit is well suited to homesite develognent if flood protection
is provided.
' This map unit is in capability subclasses IIe, irrigated, and VIc,
nonirrigated. It is in the Overflow range site.

i
1
1
1

Lf
:~

1
