The tr•ibutar•y aquifer for• the Rr•kansa,3
River is approximately 40 to 30 feet below the ground elevation.
This fact 1s evidenced by the lack of springs coming out of the
bluff along Eight Mile Creek. 6ince the mining will removr
' approximately 23 feet of resource, the ground water- table will
not be encountered.
The vicinity map (Exhibit B) indicates the location of wells,
' obtained from the Stets Engineers Office in the area around the
mine. Because of the distance of these wall$ from the operation
and the depth of the Around water table, none of the wells will
be affected by the mining open^ation.
Surface water runoff from the mined areas will flow toward Eight
Mile Creek, the Rr-kansas River, or the unnamed gulch in the
northeast section of the mine. Drainage arrows on Exhibit C show
the pe•oposed flow from all the mining areas. Tf erosion gullies
begin to form, the operator will install straw bales or boulders
' in the gullies to act as check dams and to control sediment.
The operation will require eight (8) acre feet of water for duet
' suppression annually. Tha concrete aggregate washing plant will
use recycled water end occasional replenishment water will amount
to four- t4) acre feet per- years. Potable water- for• employees will
be by delivered bottled water. The raw water for dust
suppression and washing will be diverted from Eight Mile Creek.
This water will be replaced by leasing shares from a nearby
upstream ditch on the Rr•kansas Rivera. A copy of this lease
agreement will be submitted to the file prior to use of the Eight
Mile Creek water. Backup rnw water- r•equir•ements will be supplied
by bulk water suppliers in either Penrose or Florence.
' Since then•e will be no discharge of water involved with the
mining operation, a NPDEB permit is not necessary.
1

G-1
